There have been two gigs since the last newsletter (July & August)... So read on...

Northern Soul HQ - Irish Club 5th July

This month's special guests were Boyne Callanan and Ronnie Pearce who both turned in stellar playlists, and essentially kept the floor busy - especially during the video shoot...! (more on that later..). The DJ Roster for the night:

Anyone want to be on the telly..???

As promised. our July gig was video'd by Collette & Simon (from Small Pony Productions). I gotta say that it was very well received by those on the dancefloor, and that generally I didnt think that they got in the way of things one bit - in fact they ended up on the dancefloor after they'd packed away the cameras. Also a big round of applause goes to Boyne for not minding tooo much that we used his 60 min DJ set as the time when we had some very, very bright lights on the dancefloor - the floor was jammed after the second record, and all went well. Anyways, we expected them back again in August for the all-dayer, but obviously they had a 'paying' gig to attend to. Our open invitation remains to 'Small Pony' to come and join us anytime between now and 'the Nash' for more video. See previous newsletter for more background information on this.

Northern Soul HQ - Irish Club 2nd August - All-Dayer

It was our annual (Winter) All-Dayer event on August 2nd...and what a great day it urned out be, right from the kick-off with Ian Parker DJing, and even a first-time Irish Club DJ spot from Phil Herriott, we had nothing but quality Northern Soul played all day. Full DJ roster as follows:

I won't begin to list what was played by even some of the DJs, cos you'll all end up drooling over yer keyboard - such was the quality NS that was played. Everything that you'd want to hear, want to dance too...and then some....simply brilliant! On behalf of Allan and myself, I'd like to thank each and every one of you for playing great sets of soul.

Nice to see some new faces in attendance - most of whom by the end of the night looked as if they'd either just found out that they were 19-year olds again, or that they'd just won the lottery such were the smiles on their faces (y'all know what I mean...). It was safe to say that they had a good time and methinks we'll see them all back at the IC again soon (Jimmy & Jane & Eric & Chris..)..

11th Australian National Northern Soul Weekender - 21, 22, 23 November 2008

Brief update - a worldwide email update went out last week from Soulman Pete, giving an update on where we are on this big event. But without stating the bleedin' obvious - its getting closer!......folks are booking rooms in the city (yup - even Perth folks!!), and gettin their shoes polished..."Can't get over these memories?" - No we can't.

Irish Club - Future Dates 2008/2009

September 6th - Due to Sydney Weekender on 5th, 6th, 7th of September, and many IC regulars in attendance - THIS GIG HAS BEEN CANCELLED October 4th - First Saturday in October !!November 1st - Nash warm-up

Sydney Weekender - September 5, 6, 7

What is turning into an annual event is on again...so why not make a weekend of it and visit Sydney for three nights of Northern Soul, with I gather large contingents from Queensland, NSW and Victoria in attendance...and also a decent number of West Australian soulies heading over (Hence the cancellation of the Irish Club September gig)...Tickets for the weekend are priced at $40, for more info contact Rob/Una on - una_hs@yahoo.com.au

Finally...

This month's honourable mentions:

1. Good to see our mate Van turn out at the all-dayer for a while, it was great - and for some of us who caught up with him on the Sunday arvo....where he was in top form. Nice one...
2. After a few months away, it was also good to see 'our Bernie' back behind the bar at the Irish Club...and she still remebered everyone's drinks!
